The MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE introduces itself

Universities, academies, institutes, museums, and companies conducting research in Mainz and within the region have formed an interest group called the MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE. Its purpose is to create awareness of the scientific potential of the city of Mainz and encourage close networking among the partners of the alliance.

"Mainz is Gutenberg's city and being a place for science and innovation is, therefore, part of its natural heritage," said Michael Ebling, State Secretary for Education, Science, Youth, and Culture in Rhineland-Palatinate at the MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE introduction. The state capital is indeed a place for top-level research and key technologies that have relevance for the country and beyond. The MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE intends to make these outstanding features more visible. This is important for public perception, networking research centers and emphases, as well as for the image researchers and members of the teaching staff have of themselves.

The members of the MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE represent the scientific core of Mainz as a center, jointly employing almost 4,000 scientists. They also include the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Polymer Research and Chemistry, as well as the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature.

"Top-level research can only be performed when carried out in an environment like the one in Mainz," said Professor Hans Wolfgang Spiess, Director of the MPI for Polymer Research. Professor Elke Lütjen-Drecoll, President of the Academy of Sciences and Literature, also regards the Academy as well placed within the MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE. "We can benefit a lot from each other," concluded Professor Georg Krausch, President of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, regarding the strength of the MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE.

The MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE will introduce itself to the public at the Science Market to be held around the State Theater on the second weekend of September 2008.
