Bingen University of Applied Sciences

The Bingen University of Applied Sciences is a dynamic higher education institution, combining progress, tradition and practical relevance. Some 2,600 students receive intensive training in a personal atmosphere on the Bingen-Büdesheim campus inaugurated in 1987 and in a historical building situated in the town of Bingen. The Bingen University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1897 as the Rheinisches Technikum (Rhine College of Technology). The excellent infrastructure and attractive landscape of the area, where the river Nahe flows into the Rhine, were decisive for the choice of location.

Besides the traditional engineering disciplines, the degree programs comprise a wide range of courses in biological and natural sciences as well as information technology. The medium size of the university and its modern facilities allow a strong practical emphasis. Further advantages are the focus on high-quality teaching, numerous interdisciplinary subjects and short distances between the various teaching facilities. The flexibility and comprehensiveness of our study models offer University admission to a broad range of interested students. The integrated and nested modules offered in Bingen provide ambitious students with the possibility to realize aspiring educational goals. The Summer School “Environment and Climate Change”, the Study Semester “Renewable Resources”, our membership in the consortium of the Chinese-German University of Applied Science (CDHAW), Shanghai and our participation in the ERASMUS program are some of the tools to systematically enhance and expand our international contacts around the globe.Quite a number of the offered twenty-eight Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs have been designed in close collaboration with the industry as well as other external partners, e.g. “Process Engineering”, “Energy Operations Management” and “Mechanical / Production Engineering”.“Mobile Computing”, “Renewable Energy Management” and “Climate Protection and Adaptation” are new and unique study courses being offered at the Bingen University of Applied Sciences.

Research at the Bingen University of Applied Sciences, its institutes as well as the Competence Centers, evolve around the five areas – Energy, Computer Science, Mobility, Environment and Agriculture. We especially promote the interdisciplinary applied research projects. The principle of sustainability receives broad consideration within our internal procedures as well as in teaching and research. Both faculties offer a wide range of sustainability principles in their teaching. The commitment in the area of sustainability as well as climate change manifests itself through the participation in various regional projects such as the active membership in the “Electromobility” network, a cooperation project of the German provinces Rheinland-Pfalz and Hessen. The University of Applied Sciences Bingen in cooperation with the Transferstelle Bingen (TSB) additionally offers frequent conventions, e.g. “Energy Day Rheinland-Pfalz” and “Wind Energy Day Rheinland-Pfalz” which address representatives of science, industry and politics.
