10.06.2011: Time window - The past has a future

Mainz city center becomes a walk-through exhibition and a window to science

Mainz is characterized by its significant historical past and is today a center of historical and archaeological research in Germany. Under the title "Time Window - The Past Has A Future," various "knowledge sites" for history and archaeology invite visitors to engage in a public dialogue with science during 2011, the year in which Mainz is the "city of science."

These places build bridges between everyday life and research, between the present, the past and the future. The project "Time window - The past has a future" is gradually opening up a view of a city landscape full of creativity with walk-through cubes, a stage, cubic columns, small cubes in shops around Mainz, guided tours, exhibitions, and events. The exhibits, the number of which is constantly being increased, present highlights from a variety of research tasks carried out in Mainz.

Visitors can explore Mainz in a very special way until 19 November 2011 by visiting "Time Window," with its eight separate focal areas.

Staging the city landscape and incorporating "knowledge sites" is based on a design developed by architectural students at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.

"Time Window" is a joint project of the state capital Mainz, the science museums, the universities in Mainz, research institutions and innovative companies, all under the auspices of the Roman-Germanic Central Museum.
