Five months after being awarded the title, "City of Science 2011" by the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany, preparations for the annual program in Mainz are moving full speed ahead. Approx. 500 project ideas were received under the title, "Mainz - Passionately Scientific. A City Landscape Full of Creativity." More than 300 of them will be implemented as projects. Six work groups are currently developing the event program for the science year with approx. 250 project team members from science, business, culture, and administration.

"We'll start the year with a building site party on 2 January" revealed Jens Beutel, the Mayor, during an afternoon meeting for all the work groups. The program will feature a wide range of topics, whose highlights will definitely include the Science Summer, the MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE Science Market and the "Spektrale" event at the Rheingoldhalle. There will also be research expeditions to and with Mainz institutions and companies.

"Our 'City of Science' will chart new territory and develop a specific Mainz model of knowledge transfer," announced Professor Georg Krausch, President of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and spokesman for the MAINZ RESEARCH ALLIANCE.
