Workshop: AI as your research assistant

November 17, 2025 | 12:30–16:30 | Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB), JGU Mainz with Michel Seiwert

Make AI work for you — without becoming a specialist.

This hands-on workshop provides an accessible introduction to the strengths and limitations of Large Language Models (LLMs) and shows how to use effective prompting techniques to make everyday scientific tasks more efficient—from text analysis and image processing to literature review and data exploration.

Workshop highlights include:

  • Prompting patterns to improve accuracy, reasoning, and formatting
  • Applying vision models in image-based research tasks
  • “Talk to your PDFs” – using RAG for paper summarization and data extraction
  • Data privacy, compliance, and security in AI-assisted research
  • Reducing AI hallucinations through validation and source tracking

You leave with habits and templates that make AI a reliable assistant for both scientific and everyday tasks.

Time and place: 17.11.2025, 12:30 - 16:30 at the Institute of Molecular Biology on the JGU Campus in Mainz
Target audience: PhD students in the field of natural sciences with little experience in working with AI
Requirements: Notebook with Open AI Account
